Where to go on a Saturday night???
Published 1 year, 10 months ago in Nightlife.Living in Cheltenham can be a quiet area at times, with not much happening that I know of on a Saturday night. I’m young and am often looking for a venue to hang out on a Saturday night. Being on a tight budget, could anyone give me advise on where to go that isn’t too far where I can chill out with friends and have a few quiet drinks??

Hi Cheltgal, If you are young (I assume over 18 though), what about the club at the Sandbelt hotel in Moorabbin (I think it’s called “The Drink”). I haven’t been there since it opened but I think it is angled towards the youngies… I’m over 30 myself so I might stand out like a sore thumb there… but I don’t want to go to grab-a-granny either… let me know if you have any suggestions for me… tata
The Drink is close by, but it ain’t the classiest place you’ll ever go to. But if you’re with mates, you’ll enjoy yourself anyway and not worry.
There’s always the Edgy in Mentone. Wednesday nights are its big night, but it does get a fair crowd on a Saturday too and probably a better vibe than The Drink.
Also, Mint in Brighton can be alright but you never know how big the crowd will be as it seems to fluctuate.
My tip would be to go a little further out, towards St Kilda where there is a better selection. Might be a slightly bigger taxi fare, but at least you’ve got your choice.
The Bay Hotel in Mordialloc in Beach Rd is small but a good crowd goes there. The Edgy in Mentone gets a lot of really young really pissed people (?) on Wednesdays and Saturdays, try it and see if you like it. It can be fun if you are in the mood, they do charge a $10 door charge sometimes. The Sandringham Hotel can be OK in the public bar they get bands there sometimes. However I just moved away from that side of town as I found the nightlife very lacking. There is a bus that goes to St Kilda it goes down Charman Rd, and also leaves from Southland it will take you to St Kilda. Also there is The Playhouse in Mordialloc. It is a poolhouse that has bands on Thursday nights.
